An SAP Release Manager plans, coordinates, and controls the entire SAP release lifecycle, from defining release strategies and schedules to managing deployments and post-go-live support, ensuring quality, minimizing business disruption, and maintaining compliance with standards like ITIL and SOX. Key responsibilities include stakeholder communication, risk management, process governance, and continuous improvement of the release process through post-release reviews and key performance indicator (KPI) tracking.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning: Develop and maintain the SAP release strategy, plan, and calendar, coordinating release windows and cycles across various SAP modules and integrated applications.
Execution & Coordination: Manage and coordinate all release activities, ensuring timely and seamless execution by working closely with development, testing, and infrastructure teams.
Governance & Compliance: Implement and enforce release management processes and quality gates, ensuring adherence to standards such as ITIL, SOX, and audit requirements.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks to the release schedule, quality, and scope, and develop mitigation strategies to prevent delays or disruptions.
Stakeholder Management: Liaise with business stakeholders, project managers, and other relevant teams to align release activities with business priorities.
Communication: Act as the central point of communication, providing transparency on release plans, risks, impacts, and progress to all involved parties.
Post-Release Activities: Conduct post-release reviews and postmortems, track release KPIs (success rate, defect leakage), and identify lessons learned for continuous process improvement.
Quality Assurance: Oversee the entire release lifecycle, ensuring that all release criteria, including functionality, performance, and security requirements, are met before deployment.
Process Improvement: Drive initiatives to improve workflows and efficiency, developing and implementing automation tools and frameworks to streamline release processes
