SAP US & Canada Payroll, Tax & Benefits Consultant

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced SAP Payroll, Tax & Benefits Consultant to support and maintain enterprise payroll operations across the U.S. and Canada. This role requires strong hands-on technical expertise within SAP Payroll (PY), Tax, and Benefits modules, with equal strength across all three functional areas.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience supporting live production payroll environments, troubleshooting complex payroll and tax issues, configuring schemas and PCRs, and integrating benefits and third-party vendors within SAP HCM environments. Experience with SAP ECC and/or S/4HANA payroll environments is highly preferred.
This is a high-visibility role supporting critical payroll operations in a fast-paced enterprise environment with strong potential for long-term conversion.
Key Responsibilities
SAP Payroll & Tax
- Configure, maintain, and support SAP Payroll (PY) for U.S. and Canadian payroll operations
- Execute end-to-end payroll processing including:
- Configure and maintain:
- Support year-end payroll processing including W-2, W-2c, T4, and tax reconciliations
- Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies, retro calculations, tax errors, and posting issues
- Support integrations with third-party tax vendors such as ADP and BSI
Benefits Administration & Integration
- Configure and support SAP Benefits (BN) including:
- Manage payroll integration for benefit deductions and contributions
- Support inbound and outbound benefits interfaces, IDocs, APIs, and vendor file integrations
- Ensure accurate benefits-to-payroll wage type mapping
Technical Support & Configuration
- Configure and debug:
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term fixes for payroll and benefits defects
- Support payroll posting to Finance (FI) and reconciliation activities
- Participate in system upgrades, enhancements, testing, and support pack implementations
- Support unit testing, integration testing, UAT, and parallel payroll runs
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local payroll tax regulations
- Support SOX controls, audits, and compliance documentation
- Implement payroll and tax updates driven by legislative and regulatory changes
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on SAP Payroll, Tax, and Benefits experience
- Experience supporting live production payroll environments
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
- Experience with U.S. payroll and taxation; Canada payroll experience strongly preferred
- Experience with payroll posting to FI
- Knowledge of third-party payroll and tax vendors (ADP, BSI, etc.)
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA Payroll or Payroll on HANA
- Experience with SuccessFactors Employee Central integrations
- Understanding of SAP CPI and SuccessFactors connectors
- Exposure to UKG Time Management and payroll impacts
- Experience in large-scale or unionized payroll environments
- Payroll, tax, or SAP certifications (CPP, FPC, SAP Certification)
- Experience supporting multi-state and/or multi-country payrolls
