The Position
Pharma Technical Operations, Cell & Gene Therapy (PTC) is the global team responsible for all CMC aspects of our cell and gene therapy portfolio, from development through scale-up and industrialization. Our Philadelphia site specializes in gene therapy initiatives and will be actively involved in the construction of a new Gene Therapy Innovation Center aimed at delivering transformative gene therapies to patients.
This people leader role is a crucial component of our operations, focused on leading the strategic development, implementation, and optimization of business processes within the SAP environment. As part of this team, you will function as an internal advisor for the organization and engage with the Roche network in the emerging field of Gene Therapy, discovering how to best leverage SAP for manufacturing execution. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership and key business stakeholders—including Finance, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, and IT—to define and execute SAP strategies that enhance business performance and drive innovation.
The Opportunity:
The main function of the Director, SAP Business Process Owner is to lead the strategic development, implementation, and optimization of business processes within the SAP environment. Additionally, you will:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of SAP Business Process Experts and related roles, building capability, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Manage large-scale SAP projects and initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define project scope, monitor progress, address risks, and ensure timely and successful delivery.
- Oversee the analysis and redesign of business processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and agility, ensuring that SAP configurations and customizations meet business needs.
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for SAP business process management, providing thought leadership on SAP best practices and emerging trends.
- Ensure resolution of technical and compliance issues across the SAP system related to manufacturing and quality business processes.
- Represent the organizational unit as the primary contact on vendor engagements and contracts, and ensure the resolution of technical and compliance issues across the SAP system related to manufacturing.
Who You Are:
- You possess a Bachelor’s degree in Life Science/Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 15 years of experience in the Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical industry working with manufacturing applications.
- You have extensive experience in biopharmaceutical-based GCP/GLP/GMP environments, including direct experience in the design, build, test, and support of manufacturing systems.
- You possess deep SAP manufacturing and master data knowledge, alongside expertise in software quality management such as GMP compliance, validation, change control, and data integrity.
- You have demonstrated success in the planning and delivery of complex projects within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, specifically with experience in Gene Therapy Manufacturing.
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels, acting as an effective change agent in design decisions.
- You possess Pharma4.0 knowledge, including the ability to translate business strategies and processes into a clear technology vision.
- You are an effective leader who fosters a culture of continuous improvement and agile execution, demonstrating the ability to create a directional vision, prioritize activities, leverage critical thinking, and prepare contingency plans.
- You are comfortable interacting with equivalent-level managers across diverse functions, including Finance, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, and IT.
Preferred Experience:
- Cell and Gene Therapy industry experience
- SAP certifications (e.g., SAP Certified Application Associate) are highly desirable
Relocation benefits are not available for this position.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Philadelphia is $147,000 to $273,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed in this link.
